I have a pretty bad shopping addiction. I know that may sound silly but it has gotten me in trouble financially in the past and I think it is still a big problem. I see a therapist on Tuesday so I need to talk to her about it.

hello there

I was on live journal way past its expiration date, and a friend mentioned this site was more active. Also I am getting bored with Facebook. I like to do improv and I'm hoping to write more sketch comedy and do more writing in general. Really more than expressing myself, I am on this site to read about what other people are doing/creating.

You’re going home, said the Peace Corps nurse. Jennifer began to sob uncontrollably. The nurse seemed irritated. Jennifer, you had to have someone come with you on the plane back from El Salvador to the United States. Jennifer started sobbing less, since she was shocked that the nurse sounded so cruel, uncaring, and angry. But all my stuff is still there, said Jennifer. My mattress is in a closet waiting for me, at the Peace Corps office. I have to go back. El Salvador is home. Jennifer did not want to hear any more, so she left the nurse’s office.

Warnings: may be triggering for those with mental illness
Summary: mother blames daughter for her latest bout with mental illness

You could have prevented this, her mother said furiously. If you had just stayed on the Wellbutrin, you would not be in this mess. You were crying at your desk at work every day? You should have known you needed help! I know you do not like me to talk about your weight, but you were getting heavier each time I saw you. But you seemed fine. Even when you called me on the phone when you were psychotic, you sounded so normal. But now you are a mess that I have to help clean up, because I love you.

Sam had it all—six-figure salary, beautiful condo in New York City, adult children that had grown up to be happy. But since his wife Sarah passed away, he decided to give it all up to be an artist and move to El Salvador.  Sam and Sarah had served in the Peace Corps in El Salvador when they met. They fell in love with the country and each other. Sam felt closer to his wife’s spirit in this sunny, tropical country. And it was great to live by the beach again, since Sam was an avid surfer—El Salvador had great surfing waves. Now instead of hustling on Wall Street, he was painting original works and making pottery.
